Good News! Free Meals Program Extended
The USDA recently passed a waiver to extend the free meals program into the fall. This extension means that our school district will be able to continue to provide free meals for all children ages 1 - 18 and those enrolled in our online and 18 - 21-year old programs. This good news significantly impacts our program and the ways we can provide meal services for children. We had recently shared that the free meal program had ended and adjusted the way that meals would be available. With the new extension, we are now working on developing our meal distribution procedure for the start of school and into the fall. It will be different from the spring and the summer in some ways, but most importantly, we will be able to continue to provide free meals for children. Please stay tuned for more information in the coming days.

Dear Totem Families,
It is with great excitement that I introduce myself as the newly appointed Principal of Totem Middle School for the 2020-2021 school year. Many of you already know me and have worked with me over the years here at TMS or at Marysville Getchell. If you do, you know my LOVE for this school runs deep. Our students and staff are the very best! My family loves this school as well: My mom graduated from our building in 1968 and my dad remodeled it while I attended here in the 80’s.
I grew up a Marysville girl, spending my early years just two blocks from Totem. I had the privilege of learning from the best instructors Marysville had to offer, attending Sunnyside, Liberty, Shoultes, Marysville Junior High (Totem) and Marysville-Pilchuck High School. Later, I graduated from Lewis Clark State College in Idaho and then Central Washington University with my Masters in Education Administration.
Professionally, my career in education began 17 years ago on the Nez Perce Reservation in a 6th grade classroom. I spent seven years teaching 7th grade, training staff, mentoring new teachers, coaching sports, Mathletes, LEGO robotics, advising Idaho Drug Free Youth and training teachers across the state for technology assessments. I returned to the State of Washington in 2011, teaching a variety of subjects at the high school level. When I completed my Administrative Internship I accepted a position as Dean of Students at TMS and was named Educator of the Year in 2017. I served at MGHS for a quarter as the Assistant Principal and returned to TMS when the Assistant Principal position opened here. I believe I was made for this position and prepared through my many previous experiences. This truly is my dream job.
As a parent to five amazing adults and grandma to four littles, I feel blessed in my life. Family is everything. We are registered members of the Wyandotte Nation, and enjoy traveling to our council meetings and to see our family around the world. When I am not traveling to see my kids, I relax at home with my grandma, swimming in the lake or sleeping in my hammock.
It is a bizarre, but exciting, time to lead our school, and we are living through an experience that will be recorded in the history books. I see this challenge as an opportunity for our school to be a better partner to our families and to find new, innovative ways to educate our youth. We will provide a positive, equitable learning experience where all students have access to an education that develops their purpose. I don’t have all the answers to this new adventure, but one thing I know is Thunderbirds SOAR in everything they do. I have full confidence in our team, our community and our students. To say our staff CARES about our students is an understatement. We will go above and beyond to engage, inspire and prepare each and every student everyday.
Looking forward to serving you,
Keri Lindsay
